Who we are

Club Activities

Since 1954, Silver State Kennel Club has been serving the Las Vegas Valley's purebred fancier community as a non-profit, open membership , all breed , and obedience club. Members represent all ages and walks of life, with a common bond of unaminous interest and love of purebred dogs.

How we began

In the Summer of 1954, Joe & Joan Cox ran an ad in the local paper announcing the formation of a dog club to be named "Silver State Kennel Club". Twelve members were present at the first meeting, and dues were just $5.00 per person.

August 25, 1955, was the first recorded meeting held, with minutes taken by Ruth Anderson. November 6, 1955, SSKC held the first Fun Match at City Park with 113 entries.

February 1956 saw the first AKC Sanction B Match, which was held at Cashman Field. In May 1959, SSKC held the first AKC Sanction A Match with all decorations in Marine Blue and Silver. Actor Preston Foster awarded the Best in Match Trophy.

The first SILVER STATE KENNEL CLUB All Breed Show was held on October 15, 1961, under the direction of President Nila Smith. Edgar Moss was the Show Superintendent. A German Shepherd Dog, CH. Ulk Wikingerblut (CH. Troll vom Richterbach x Natja Wikingerblut), owned by Ralph S. and Mary C. Roberts, won Best in Show, and was awarded a Paul Revere Bowl filled with $300 Silver Dollars.

This was our beginning. Though this is obviously not a complete SSKC history to present day, we have attempted to relate, in capsule form, something of the background and progress of our club, and a glimpse of the long years of careful effort that have gone into the making of the one of the pre-eminent kennel clubs in the country.

are happy to present to Las Vegas Fire and Rescue,

It is with great pleasure we are able to make this valuable contribution to help save lives of our beloved animal companions suffering effects of fire and smoke.

Silver State Kennel Club is an all-breed conformation, obedience and rally club. We are a member of the American Kennel Club and are a non-profit organization.

Our main objectives are to conduct an annual AKC All Breed Conformation Show and Obedience and Rally Trial, put on bi-annual handling classes and AKC Sanction B matches, offer educational meetings, seminars, and mentor responsible dog owners interested in the dog fancy. At our annual show, we offer a Junior Handling Scholarship and finance our Canine Giving Fund where contributions are made to help local and nationwide dog related causes.
